Our Church School

ACHIEVING AND FLOURISHING TOGETHER IN GOD’S LOVING ARMS

Our school is a member of the Diocese of Exeter. We are wholly committed to the education and welfare of the children in our care and have identified what makes our school distinctive. Our church school’s success is based on strong and welcoming links between school, home, church and community. Our school is a member of the Diocese of Exeter. We are wholly committed to the education and welfare of the children in our care and have identified what makes our school distinctive. Our church school’s success is based on strong and welcoming links between school, home, church and community.

At Galmpton Church of England School we give the highest priority to the spiritual development of all our pupils. Our church school is distinguished by the special character of its religious education and Christian worship and within this teaches an awareness of, and respect for, other faiths. In our church school, Christian values are built into our ethos and teaching.

Our school is blessed and privileged to have links and the support of our local church. Many of our governors attend our parish church, St Mary the Virgin in Churston Village. Reverend Ian Blyde is a regular visitor to our school. He often leads Eucharist and other services each term and pops in regularly to school to offer support and to forge greater links with the school community.

Throughout the year, all children have the opportunity to attend Church. We hold an annual Christingle service in church and our KS2 children lead a Christmas Nativity service too. On Christmas Eve our community comes together in church to see Galmpton school children re-creating the Christmas story.

We also attend church at other times of the Year too. We shared our new Mission statement with the Church community and were very proud of the banner we made with Reverend Ian’s wife, Liz. We took our banner to the school’s service in another Torquay school where we led one of the readings and our Year 6 pupils made the resources for a play.

At the beginning of this Year the school celebrated the new school Year with a welcome service for all our new staff at St Mary the Virgin Church. For many of our new staff this was their first opportunity to visit the Church and it was lovely to share the welcome extended to our staff by the church community at Churston. Reverend Ian came down to school and shared in our Welcome service for our new Reception children.

As well as attending other Services in church throughout the Year we also held our Annual Leaver’s service in the Barn Chapel just across the road from our School. Rev. John led the service which was prepared and organised by our Year 6 leavers. This was a really special service and we’re hoping to have lots more opportunities this Year to worship at the Barn chapel.

If you would like to come and join us at any of our Services and Eucharists in school or in church do look out for our regular updates on our Monthly newsletters. Everyone is welcome! For further information about St Mary the Virgin church you can go to: St. Mary Churston
